Faux 3D - Jitter for animated Gifs.
I've been a bit slow with the blog - lots of photos happening. Looking toward the future one of the areas that we are exploring is 3D photography. At this point we are just learning and exploring but sometime soon it will be nice to really try out. But, in a way, we face the same dilemma James Cameron did before he came out with Avatar. There is still a relatively small install base of homes that are ready for 3D. I don't even own a 3D TV.
In the meantime there is a technique that uses jitter in 2 similar images to create the perception of 3 dimensions. I was scrolling through some images and I noticed that that these two could work for the technique. So, I put together a little animated gif.
Not bad; especially if you look at Ryan.

Fundraiser for Japan tomorrow in Providence
Hello all,
Tomorrow from 10am to 2pm a group of local artists are selling their work with the proceeds all going to Japan relief efforts. Please consider coming down to the Providence open markets where hope street and blackstone meet (the little park). It will be right next to the farmer's market so you can get some goodies there too.

The Japan Debut - International food magazine photography
So, we shot for our first Japanese magazine this past month - it is out now "Oct. 2011 Ryori Tsushin."
Shooting for a Japanese audience was interesting. I wasn't sure how to think. Working with our writer I was inclined to try to make what I perceived the editor to want. But, at the same time I was inclined to give them something different as well. At the end of the day they didn't run my juggling chef or tomato smiley face photos but I guess that was a stretch.
But, they did run a photo of Amie who was a stand in (and had provided some of our garden's tomatoes for the story). Lots of smiles around here.

Article on Disaster out in Eastside Monthly + Interview by Providence Monthly Magazine
People come to Photography RI for various reasons - some think this is a photo collective - others just want a creative wedding photographer. But, this year there is a different story to be told and somehow I became part of that story. So, if you have the time you can read my article on Japan in the Eastside Monthly . I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to share the story and I hope to continue following the story moving forward. The people I met in Japan were so gracious that I wish that my words and images were enough to truly capture their spirit.
Or you can hop over to
Providence Monthly and read the interview with myself and Mary Brewster (who is working on a This Old House project this year).
Now, they used the same scene in both articles. I would like to think there were some other options. But, I can also appreciate that this particular scene in Kesennuma is very powerful. I plan on putting up other images moving forward. Many thanks to the Providence Media crew and Vikki Warner who made the interview easy.
