a technical note for those with OSX Snow Leopard high CPU usage trouble
By James on Apr 29, 2010 | In Updates | Leave a comment »
I just updated my Macbook Pro to Snow Leopard (10.6.3) from Tiger 10.4.11. My activity monitor was showing 55% cpu usage but no process that was taking the resources. This was incredibly annoying and led me to work the last hour trying to figure it out. I uninstalled a lot of crap, moved preferences around, deleted user data. It turns out I needed Rosetta (which wasn't installed?) and it was cause by my Epson V750 scanner (Epson Scanner Monitor). I downloaded the latest SN compatible drivers - which triggered the Rosetta install. Immediately the CPU dropped and I am sitting pretty once more. I'm putting this in the blog so that someone doing a search for phantom CPU usage OSX or high usage fans at 100% OSX Snow Leopard can find the problem and a potential solution.
This is Jon. My friend in the Mac lifestyle. Both of us avoiding computers in a quant little house in Maine. Our wives are somewhere... just taking in the sun. I'm ready for another Maine vacation I think.

a bit of romance
By James on Apr 22, 2010 | In Updates | Leave a comment »
In late May I am going to be photographing Jon and Teri's slightly unconventional wedding. But, this past Monday I got the opportunity to photograph them in a less formal setting.
Oh and they said they love the cheese. I'm a romantic so I don't know if I call it cheese per se, but it made anything a "go". I'm not actually posting the funny photos that we did; I'll save those for the wedding (I think).
Hank (the dog) wasn't feeling like hanging out too much:

More from early April. Bouldering Lincoln woods - and a call for help
By James on Apr 20, 2010 | In Updates | Leave a comment »
*just as a note - please don't dload the pics or post them elsewhere like facebook - cause I'll post 'em eventually and Facebook has some funky rights issues that will cause me problems.
Does anyone know what happened to Lincoln Woods Bouldering.com? It's a shame to see a resource just disappear. If you know, let me know. If I can help I will.
More pics to come from during the week... These are a mix of week and weekend (I managed to escape work for an hour or two.. work being photography... so maybe I didn't?).

The Lincoln Woods are alive with climbers and bugs. I've been lucky enough to get out a few times in the fine weather. The bugs aren't too bad yet and for the most part I am surrounded by people that the bugs love so they leave me alone (thank you all the sweet people).
I think this year I'm going hitch rides up to Farley, Pway, and Mormon something or other (these are all Nina's suggestions). I'm open to more ideas... and lifts to wherever. I want to photograph strong cilmbers... but maybe more than that just a piece of camp life / daily climbing life.
I grew up watching Dragonball so I expect a "kamehameha!" any time now looking at these two dueling.

more to come.
