Nelson - minus the sun
I got a call today from Mississippi from a printing company needing some help with regard to CS4 printing profiles. During the course of the conversation it was observed that the rest of the country has been in a heat wave while we in the Northeast have had something like 23 of the past 30 days with rain. It has been a soggy dreary mess.
But, in the midst of this mess I'd conversed via. email with Nelson who is a infantry reservist and a climber. In my opinion he has strikingly good looks, and tatoos add some character, so I'd been thinking that it would cool to photograph him sometime. An issue I have (which may be just in my head... and ill-advised to put to paper) is that as a guy I know what a guy should look like. Conversely, I know what I find attractive in women, but it isn't necessarily the same thing that a woman would find attractive in herself. It is all about nuance. But, I find myself with more opportunity to shoot photos of women than men.
So, to rectify that I called Nelson today just to arrange a future shoot date (it's crappy outside as always), but when he mentioned he was going to be just up the street in an hour I jumped on it. We're still going to shoot my original plan of something with warmth and sun (when the weather permits), but I like bad weather. Bad weather makes for interesting photos.
Thankfully, Nelson has tremendous self control and only did the crazy "get these mosquitos off me dance" when I didn't have the camera pointed at him. I lost some blood out there today too.
He has a killer smile, but to be frank it contrasts so much with these images that I'm not posting a smiley photo. Not yet anyway, that comes on the warm sunny day.
Many thanks my friend, we'll bring your fiery Italian/Brazilian heritage out next time. You'll have to put up with disaffected model look photo set for now. I dig it though.
as always please don't copy the pics without asking. © James P. Jones 2009. for the curious - I shoot film. drop me a line and say hello
